A few days ago, I was reading the talk by Elder Uchtdorf (one of my very favorites) titled "Of things that matter most" and it really touched me because he talks about how we need to simplify our lives in order to focus on the things that matter most, and most importantly, in order to feel our Savior's love for us.
As many of you know, I'm working towards a business degree from BYU and I'm working part-time, which
can be extremely busy at times!! Now my intention is not to complain BY ANY MEANS, but
simply say that sometimes it's WAY too easy to get caught up in all the things we have to get done
every single day and oftentimes we allow ourselves to lose focus of what is
most important.
Since Elder Uchtdorf states it much better than I do, I would like to insert a few quotes from his talk that I found to be really touching!
He says:
"Let’s be honest; it’s rather easy to be busy. We all can think up a list of tasks that will overwhelm our schedules. Some might even think that their self-worth depends on the length of their to-do list."
"There is a beauty and clarity that comes from simplicity that we sometimes do not appreciate in our thirst for intricate solutions."
"Brothers and sisters, diligently doing the things that matter most will lead us to the Savior of the world. That is why “we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, … that [we] may know to what source [we] may look for a remission of [our] sins.” 8 In the complexity, confusion, and rush of modern living, this is the “more excellent way.” 9
"Strength comes not from frantic activity but from being settled on a firm foundation of truth and light. It comes from placing our attention and efforts on the basics of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. It comes from paying attention to the divine things that matter most."
"Let us simplify our lives a little. Let us make the changes necessary to refocus our lives on the sublime beauty of the simple, humble path of Christian discipleship—the path that leads always toward a life of meaning, gladness, and peace."
So... yesterday morning when I felt really tired, rushed, and weighed down
by the things on my to-do list, I decided to take the 5 minutes needed to watch this video from Elder Busche and it made all the difference.
I have seen this video before and it touches me every time!
So my encouragement to all of you is to SIMPLIFY your life and don't EVER forget to pause and take the opportunity to ponder all the blessings you have been given. If you do this, your life will be richly blessed.
